Hawk varsity falls to Belle Plaine

BELLE PLAINE — Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks dropped a five-set decision Monday in South Iowa Cedar League play against host Belle Plaine. Belle Plaine won 25-18, 25-23, 21-25, 20-25, 15-12.

“We did a nice job coming back after being down two sets,” said Heather James, Lynnville-Sully head coach. “They hit the ball better the last three sets.”

Cassie Cullen delivered 19 kills for the Hawk net attack, plus had 14 digs and one service ace. Kristen Van Der Wilt put down six kills, Lysandra James had five kills, while Macy Lanser and Taylor Vnader Leest each had three kills.

Lanser served four aces for Lynnville-Sully, and Van Der Wilt had three ace serves. Lyndsay Terpstra, Vander Leest, and James each had one ace. Jade Van Rees was credited with 31 set assists.

Lanser came up with 25 digs to lead the Hawks. Van Rees had 14 digs, followed by Vander Leest with 12 digs, Terpstra with 11, and Van Der Wilt with 10 digs.

The Hawk junior varsity won 25-13, 25-16 led by Brenna Lanser with five kills, four ace serves, and three digs. Van Der Wilt, Tierney Needham, and Shelby Foster each had three kills. Marissa Vos and Jelissa Rosendaal had two kills apiece. Rosendaal made 12 set assists.

Lynnville-Sully won the freshman/sophomore match 21-10, 21-15. Jelissa Rosendaal had six ace serves, two kills and seven assists in the match, while Makenzy Rosendaal had two kills and one ace. Lindsey Hood had three kills and four digs, while Naomi had nine digs.
