Several children and their parents attended the first Toddler Time Music event at Uncle Nancy's on Wednesday.

Associate Director of Iowa Youth Chorus Jane Johnson had a pretty successful turnout for her first Toddler Time Music event Wednesday at Uncle Nancy’s Coffeehouse, with more than a dozen preschool-aged children attending.

Johnson said she got the idea from a coffeehouse in Des Moines but wanted to put her on spin on it.

“We are going to be messing around with some fun instruments, doing some dancing, and doing a little singing,” she said. “Part of what’s built into it with me is a little bit of music literacy by varying tonalities and rhythms and styles of music. Opening their ears to many different things they may not see or hear (typically).”

Johnson said the event may be offered again in the future.
