Jasper County LWV to hear program on Oaxaca visit

Brent Parker will present a program during the League of Women Voters of Jasper County meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Park Centre Garden Room.

Parker traveled to Oaxaca in southern Mexico this summer with the Witness for Peace organization. They learned about the agriculture of the area and related immigration issues of the Mexican ethnic Indians. He will discuss their way of life and the impacts of agricultural technology and trade policies.

Parker is a graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in agricultural engineering. He spent two years in the Peace Corps in Ecuador, South America.  He has worked at Iowa State University designing livestock research facilities. He served as the Jasper County Sanitarian and as the state regulatory engineer with DNR for septic systems and private wells.
