Newton Police Department
• Lisa R. Coonts, 49, and Jessica L. Morris, 26, both of Newton, were charged with fifth-degree theft after officers observed a female wearing all black, holding a flashlight, and rummaging through clothing at 9:15 p.m. Monday at 721 E. 10th St. N. The two told officers the clothes belonged to a friend, but the owner said they didn’t know who they were. They were both taken to jail.
• Kenneth J. Lamb Jr., 41, of Newton was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, cited for leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to have insurance, and was found at fault for an accident after officers were dispatched at 5:25 p.m. Friday to East Third Street South on a report of an accident. Lamb said he was turning into a driveway when a vehicle driven by Ashley N. Rasler, 20, of Newton began to pass him. She said Lamb had pulled to the side of the road since Lamb’s turn signal was not initiated. Lamb then turned and struck Rasler causing an estimated $2,000 in damage to his own car and $1,800 to Rasler’s vehicle. Lamb left the scene and was found a block away. He was released to appear in court.
• Lisa L. Stanzyk, 19, of Colfax was cited for following too close after officers were dispatched at 4:45 p.m. Saturday to the intersection of First Avenue and First Street on a report of an accident. Stanzyk rear ended a vehicle driven by Brandon L. Smith, 17, of Saydel, causing an estimated $200 in damage to his car and $10 to hers.
• Kenosha M. Wims, 17, of Newton was charged with disorderly conduct after officers were dispatched at 5:50 p.m. Sunday to Emerson Hough on report of possible fight. Upon arrival, officers told everyone in the area to disperse, but Wims continued walking in the middle of the road. Wims was released to appear in court.
Jasper County Sheriff’s Office
• Gregory J. Bologna, 29, of Newton was charged with public intoxication and interference with official acts after deputies were dispatched at 5 p.m. Sunday to the 1700 block of North 19th Avenue East on report of a male damaging property. Upon arrival, deputies saw Bologna appear to be provoking another male on the train tracks. When he turned around to speak with the deputies, they clearly saw his lack of balance. The deputy asked Bologna to walk towards him, but Bologna ran away, stumbled and lost his footwear in the process. Bologna admitted to having one beer but refused a chemical test. He was placed in jail.
• Joy Ellen Burns, 30, of Hartford was cited for driving while license suspended after officers stopped her at 7:39 a.m. Monday in the 7400 block of Highway 14 South. She was released to appear in court.
• Karenzya K. James, 18, of Newton was cited for operating a vehicle while license suspended after deputies stopped her at 8:28 Saturday in the 9200 block of Highway F48. She was released to appear in court.
• Christopher P. Stitt, 22, and Ashley N. Brooks, 20, of Monroe were charged with child endangerment. Stitt was additionally charged with simple domestic assault and Brooks was additionally charged with serious domestic assault after deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at 3:46 a.m. Friday at 105 N. Monroe St. While in an argument with Brooks, Stitt pushed her head into the sink for a brief second then released it. Once he released her head, she struck him in the forehead with a glass bottle. Stitt had the received six stitches. Brooks told deputies she struck Stitt out of anger and not in self defense. This incident took place in front of their 2-year-old son. They were both placed in jail.
• Ann E. Williams, 41, of Prairie City was charged with second-degree theft after the Iowa Steak Company requested files be charged related to the theft of $1,995 in frozen meat at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 at 12433 Highway S6G. Williams wrote checks to pay for the meat but the checks were for a closed account. Williams was released to appear in court.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
