Newton Police Department

• Jacob T. Whalen, 27, of Newton was charged with domestic assault after officers were dispatched at 6:05 p.m. Monday to 1453 N. 11th Ave. E. of report of a domestic disturbance. The victim was arguing with Whalen, who was her boyfriend, when he threw a cell phone at her which struck her in the stomach, leaving a visible red mark. Two witnesses saw the incident. He was taken to jail.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

• Emily L. Cook, 28, of Urbandale was arrested in Polk County by Urbandale police and transported to the Jasper County Jail at 2 p.m. Wednesday on an active warrant from the Colfax Police Department in a case regarding fraud.

• William D. MacDonald, 49, of Newton was transported to the Jasper County Jail by the Des Moines Police Department at 2:24 p.m. Thursday. MacDonald had a active warrant in Jasper County. Deputies met Des Moines officers to pick up MacDonald.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
