Mustangs trounce Eagles
MONROE — Prairie City-Monroe’s Mustangs and Pella Christian’s Eagles squared off under the lights on Friday in Monroe, and the Mustangs came away with a dominant 40-3 victory.
The game was over early, as PCM took a 33-0 lead into halftime thanks in part to an outstanding performance from senior Zach Uhlenhopp. Uhlenhopp rushed for 31 yards and a touchdown to go along with three catches for 93 yards, the most notable of which was a 58-yard touchdown catch and run. Uhlenhopp’s outstanding performance was not limited to the offensive side of the ball. He also picked off three Eagles’ passes and returned two punts.
The Mustangs also got solid performances out of senior Blake McWilliams, who ran for 48 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, and junior Ronnie Marshall, who picked up 46 yards and two touchdowns on five rushing attempts. Luke Cummings rushed five times for 13 yards and scored a touchdown.
Sophomore quarterback Logan Gilman completed five of his seven pass attempts for 119 yards and a touchdown.
McWilliams led the Mustangs with nine tackles. Luke Pendroy picked up eight tackles. Jaret Maggard and Justin Beener tied for third on the team with seven tackles apiece. Clay Cooper and Brandon Charls each had six tackles. Marshall and Cummings had four apiece.
As for the Eagles, bright spots were few and far between, but senior Mason Howezyl stood out with 114 yards rushing on 21 carries. Defensively, freshman David Kacmarynski highlighted the Eagles’ effort with 12 tackles, two for loss. Zach Van Zee picked up nine tackles. Carson Dugger and Colten Collins each had five tackles. Jake De Ruiter and Andrew Vander Hart had four apiece.
