Hawks find it tough going offensively, lose to Rockets

SULLY — T.J. Cunningham caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from running back Caden Doll for Lynnville-Sully’s lone score Friday night. Meliek Meyer had the two-point conversion.

The Hawks dropped a 20-8 decision to the visiting Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Rockets. The loss put the Hawks at 0-2 on the season in non-district play.

Lynnville-Sully opens Class A, District 6 play at home this coming Friday, hosting Pekin (1-1). It is a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Bailee Sampson rushed for 87 yards on 12 carries for the Hawks against the Rockets. Doll carried the football 13 times for 28 yars and Sage Ehresman had 12 yards on two carries.

Brandon Dunsbergen went 8-of-18 passing for 83 yards and threw an interception. Noah Engle was 0-of-2 and threw an interception.

Cunningham made four receptions for 48 yards to leading the receiving corps. Darin Hofer had three catches for 48 yards and Payton Haack had one catch for five yards.

Doll led the Hawk defense with 15 solo tackles and four assisted tackles. Samson had seven solo stops and four assisted tackles, plus two quarterback sacks. Haack recovered a fumble for the Hawks.
