Newton Police Department

• A 14-year-old female was charged with assault after officers were dispatched at 10:07 a.m. Aug. 29 to Newton Senior High School on a report of an assault. She said she punched the victim in the face because she was talking trash on her and her family.

• A 15-year-old female was charged with assault after officers were dispatched at 10:45 a.m. Aug. 29 to Newton Senior High School on a report of an assault. The incident caused a disruption in the hallway.

• John L. Britton, 48, of Newton was charged with public intoxication, criminal mischief and interference with official acts after officers were dispatched at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday to 821 S. 13th Ave. E. on report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, Britton told officers he had consumed one pint of beer but refused a breath test. After a struggle he was placed in handcuffs. He also kicked out a window on a police vehicle. He was taken to jail.

• Tonya N. Gutierrez, 29, of Newton was cited for driving while license suspended after officers performed a traffic stop at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of North Third Avenue West. She was released to appear in court.

• Daniel J. Jensen, 50, of Newton was charged with domestic assault after officers were dispatched at 5:01 p.m. Tuesday to 910 N. Ave. E. on a report of an assault. The victim was attempting to leave the house when Jensen slammed her hand in the door, allegedly causing a bloody abrasion. The victim requested a no-contact order, and Jensen was placed in jail.

• Steven J. Morris, 45, of Newton was arrested on an active warrant for probation violation after officers located him at 5:38 p.m. Tuesday at the Mid Iowa Motel. He was taken to jail.

• Latasha R. Harris-Pearson, 19, of Newton was charged with serious assault, fifth-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree criminal mischief, interference with official acts and possession of alcohol by a minor after officers were dispatched at 10:36 p.m. Monday to 1420 N. Fourth Ave. E. on a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers were met by the female victim who said Harris-Pearson fled on foot. When they found Harris-Pearson, she denied assaulting or harassing anyone. Officers went back to talk to the victim, and Harris-Pearson arrived on the scene. She eventually complied with officers and got out of the vehicle. She slammed the door on herself and left the car in reverse. Officers had to chase the vehicle down. She  refused to comply with officers orders to put her hands behind her back. She also had an active warrant out of Jasper County for probation violation. She was taken to jail.

• Jacob C. Seaman, 16, Scotty W. Allspach, 16, both of Newton, and a 15-year-old male were charged with fifth-degree theft after officers were dispatched at 2:46 p.m. Tuesday to Walmart on a report of a theft. The group attempted to steal a fuse pack valued at $5.67.

Sheriff’s Office

• Joanthan C. Petermeier, 24, of Mingo was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and possession of drug paraphernalia after deputies performed a traffic stop at 6:57 p.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of South Main Street in Mingo. Petermeier refused to a data-master test. A marijuana smoking pipe was located in the vehicle. He was taken to jail.
