Aquagirls sweep Grinnell meet competition

GRINNELL — NCMP’s Aquagirls have not met their match yet this season. On Thursday, they won both the varsity and junior varsity team competiton against Indianola and Grinnell at the Grinnell tournament.

“Unfortunately, the computer was not reading the scoreboard, so they had to enter all times by hand. We don’t have a complete set of results with times and team scores,” said Sarah Patterson, NCMP head coach.

“We won both the junior varsity and varsity meets by wide margins over each of the teams. Our team goal tonight was aggressive courage to really take our races out fast and see how far we could push ourselves. For the most part, I feel we accomplished our goal, but we still ahve a ways to go.”

Carly Colville won the 200 freestlye were Kira Hanson and Emily Forsyth third and fourth in the race for the Aquagirls’ varsity. Samantha Hedrick, Hannah Rhoads and Sierra Griffth went 1-2-3 in the 200 individual medley.

Patterson said all the NCMP individual medley swimmers had strong races. Other fast times included Emily Miller, Abby Jolivette, Olivia Maharry, Willa Colville and Taylor Tremmel.

In the 50 freestyle, it was another 1-2-3 finish for NCMP with Hannah Scotton winning followed by Sydney Griffith and Sara Marton. Scotton and Carly Colville tied for first in the 100 butterfly. Hedrick won the 100 freestyle with Rachel Prendergast taking third. Hanson won the 500 freestyle with her best time of 5 minutes, 55.65 seconds.

The Aquagirls won all the relays in the both junior varsity and varsity competition.

Sydney Jenkins posted a season-best time in the 100 backstroke for second place. The 100 breastroke race saw Martin, Griffith and Rhoads take the top three spots.

In junior varsity races, Brianna Fuller won the 200 freestyle, senior Paige Reed had season-best times in winning the 50 and 100 freestyle races.

Senior Brooke Hamand claimed first in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke races. Grace Perrin, another senior, won the 500 freestyle while senior Hannah Marston achieved her goal of going under 1:20 in winning the 100 backstroke.

NCMP travels to Iowa XCity Tuesday to take on Iowa City High and Dubuque Wahlert at Mercer Pool.
