To the editor:
Tuesday, Sept. 10, the citizens of Newton will have the privilege of voting in the school board election. It is encouraging to see the number of people who have stepped forward to put their name on the ballot.
School elections in Newton have never had a high turn out of voters. This is the opportunity for each of us to voice our opinion on who we want to represent us in making choices for the school district.
It is easy to complain about decisions made by the board. However, it is up to each of us to vote for whom we think will listen to and represent us in making wise and educated decisions.
This year there are four open seats. Three people who have or are serving are running and three additional candidates have stepped forward as write-ins. If you wish to vote for a write-in candidate, fill in the oval and spell their name correctly.
Those adding their names to the ballot are: Robyn Friedman, Darrin T. Hamilton and Travis Padget. There is a forum to meet the candidates 7 p.m. Thursday at the City Council Chambers.
This district needs a board that will set long term goals with ideas from the staff and citizens. Is it time for a change, or are we satisfied with the status quo? Please exercise your right to vote.
