Deadline to register for Jasper County Leadership program is Wednesday

Those interested in participating in the Jasper County Leader Development Class have until Wednesday, Sept. 3, to register. As of press time, 15 people had signed up; the class is limited to 20.

The program is a collaboration of Newton Development Corporation, Jasper County Economic Development Corporation and Des Moines Area Community College. Classes beging Sept. 17 and will be held for two hours each Tuesday through Nov. 5.

Evelyn George will teach six of the eight sessions. Buzz Hoffman, a certified “Real Colors” instructor, will teach the “Colors” classes.

The program is open only to those who live and/or work in Jasper County. Tuition for the program is $219. Jasper Community Foundation is again offering their support.

“We were happy to partner in this leadership training opportunity with the foundation providing a 50 percent tuition reimbursement to the graduates who successfully completed the program and met attendance and training requirements,” Jasper Community Foundation President Dan Skokan said. “Our board is committed to building leadership capacity in Jasper County.”

NDC Executive Director Frank Liebl said the classes offer participants a chance to learn so much more about their community, themselves, and to interact with other participants.

“We need future leaders to step forward, and become more involved in their respective communities,” he added.
