Mustangs go 1-3 to open season

Prairie City-Monroe’s Mustangs traveled to Dallas Center-Grimes on Tuesday afternoon to participate in a season-opening four-team tournament. The Mustangs lost to DCG (21-15, 14-21, 11-15), Algona (9-21, 12-21) and Urbandale (5-21, 5-21), while winning their match over Nodaway Valley (21-11, 21-16).

Abbi Gilson was the Mustangs’ leader in kills with 14. Lexi Kain was only one short of tying for the team lead, as she had 13 kills. Cassidy Van Veen led the team with 17 assists, only two more than Emma Williams’ 15. Gilson Also led the Mustangs in digs with 23. Kain had 13 digs, and Courtney VanHouweling contributed 14. Williams was 20-for-20 with two aces. VanHouweling was 23-for-23 on the service line. She had one ace.

The Mustangs’ next match will be their home opener on Tuesday agaisnt Carlisle at 7 p.m.
