Hawkeyes to combat heat wave for opener

Hawkeyes to combat heat wave for opener

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — The University of Iowa is taking a number of precautions to combat the excessive heat expected for Saturday’s football opener against Northern Illinois.

The Hawkeyes say they’ll have cooling stations available in every corner of Kinnick Stadium, with misting stations and cold towels available.

The school will also allow fans to bring in multiple sealed bottles of water — and it has cut the price of bottled water for sale inside Kinnick to $2.

Carver-Hawkeye Arena, the Recreation Building and the Field House will also be open at 8 a.m. for fans seeking relief from the heat.

The Iowa Department of Health is warning those with pre-existing medical conditions to watch or listen to the game from home, with a high of 95 degrees expected Saturday in Iowa City.
