American Indians are being ignored by U.S. national media outlets

To the editor:

I really respect Dr. King and the problems of his day. Let’s face it, we have come along way.

We have to go along way, too. But will some make it all the way? No, we won’t. We can’t make them, either.

Some want to be educated and some just won’t and we will not make them. I, myself, am one-quarter Cherokee and preferr to declare myself as an American Indian. I have yet to talk to anyone who has remembered anyone who has remembered anyone who can tell me anything or any history about the American Indians.

I could tell anyone how we had to fight tooth and nail and still fight tooth and nail for every bit of land we have. We have had so much taken from us (and still do) yet you never hear it on TV or radio.

I often wonder why. I guess it’s because we aren’t important enough. Yet we were the first people here in the U.S. They call us “Native Americans.” That is a big grin. We are American Indians!

We don’t blow smoke ... we are for real.
