Department

• Elizabeth R. Aablers, 23, of Newton was charged with interference with official acts, criminal mischief and harassment of public officers after officers were dispatched at 2:14 a.m. Friday to 204 N. Fifth Ave. E. on report of a suicidal female who was intoxicated. Upon arrival, she was told to go to a hospital room and had to be escorted by officers. When one of the officers touched her she cursed and threatened him. She was then handcuffed. She was placed in jail.

• Daryl B. Merrill, 19, and Arturo A. Rico, 19, both of Newton, were charged with fifth-degree theft after officers were dispatched at 12:52 a.m. Sunday to Hy-Vee on report of a theft. Bixby and Rico attempted to allegedly steal a case of Busch Light valued at $16.28. They were placed in jail.

• Joanette Ingram, 33, of Newton was charged with assault after officers were dispatched at 2 p.m. Aug. 7 to 411 N. Third Ave. E. Ingram openly admitted to striking a 2-year-old for biting her young daughter. She was released to appear in court.

• Gregory E. Jurgensen, 22, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after officers initiated a traffic stop at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of East 10th Street North. He was released to appear in court.

• Denise N. Meyer, 38, of Newton was arrested on an active warrant at 4: 15 p.m. Tuesday at the Jasper County Courthouse. The warrant was for failing to appear at sentencing for driving with a suspended license and unlawful passing of a school bus. She was taken to jail.

• Randall G. Meyer, 54, of Newton was found to be wanted on an active warrant at 1:52 p.m. Tuesday at the Jasper County Courthouse. The warrant was for failing to appear in court on a fifth-degree theft charge. He took care of the warrant while in front of the judge and was released.

• Elizabeth A. McDaniels, 22, of Newton was cited for failure to yield upon entering a highway after she struck a vehicle driven by Jacob R. Hughes, 26, of Newton at 8:11 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Second Avenue East and First Avenue East. No injuries were reported, but the accident caused $350 in damage to McDaniel’s car and $900 of damage to Hughes’ car.

• Jared M. McGinley, 28, of Mitchellville was charged with forgery and first-degree theft after officers were dispatched at 1:35 p.m. Friday to Jimmy John’s on report of a theft. McGinley stole a checkbook from a customer’s pants and attempted to write a check to Fareway for $35. McGinley was located at the Newton Public Library, where the director of the library found the check. McGinley was placed in jail.

• Sarah K. L. Snyder, 32, of Newton was arrested on an active warrant after officers were dispatched at 3:48 p.m. Tuesday to 513 E. 21st St. S. on a report of an unwanted guest. Her warrant was out of Dallas County was for fourth-degree theft. She was taken to jail.

• Madison M. Winningham, 19, of Kellogg was cited for failure to maintain control after striking a vehicle driven by Carlos O. Heatherly, 73, of Alcoa, Tenn. at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at First Avenue East and East Eighth Street. Winningham admitted she was flustered because she was late to work and pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake. She caused $50 of damage to Heatherly’s car and $100 to her own.

Sheriff’s Office

• Cody L. Logan, 19, and Henrey P. Bowman, 20, both of Colfax, were charged with consumption of alcohol by minor after officers were dispatched at 2:34 a.m. Sunday to Division St. and Locust Street in Colfax. They were both released to appear in court.

• Keely M. Murphy, 18, of Newton was charged with drug possession and delivery, drug possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, possession drug paraphernalia, drug possession marijuana, no insurance and driving without a license after officers were dispatched at 12:19 p.m. Friday to the 1400 block of North 19th Avenue East. Murphy was placed in jail.
