Glory L. Gordon

Glory L. Gordon, 78, of Newton died on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at Skiff Medical Center.

A funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. today at the First Assembly of God Church in Newton. Memorials to the First Assembly of God Church may be left at the church or the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Glory, the daughter of Paul C. and Lily E. (Lindsey) Koppin, was born Jan. 8, 1935, in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1954. Glory was united in marriage with Richard C. Gordon on June 1, 1956, in Newton. She was a CNA and home daycare provider for 22 years, retiring in 1998. Glory was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and a Bible study leader. She loved being with her family and was called “Grandma” by many.  Glory was also a dedicated Prayer Warrior, with people calling her and stopping by day and night to ask her for prayers.

Those left to honor Glory’s memory are her children, Calvin (Pam) Gordon of Carrollton, Ga., Steve (Myrna) Gordon of Boise, Idaho, Brian (Kathy) Gordon of Alva, Okla., and Ellen (Vince) Knoot of Newton; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Duane (Betty) Koppin, David (Mary) Koppin, and Karen (Ron) Sloan; many nieces and nephews and brother-in-law, Leonard Simpson.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Gordon in 1974; and a sister, Marlene Simpson.
