• Kristofer R. Carpenter, 25, of Clive was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license revoked after authorities observed a vehicle at Emerson Hough School at 1:20 a.m. July 10, ran the license plate and determined the driver’s license was revoked. Authorities followed the vehicle to 600 E. 7 1/2 St. N., where it stopped. Carpenter told police his ID was in his apartment and that he would go inside and get it, but he never returned. Officers had the vehicle towed and, during an inventory, found a glass pipe in plain view in the driver’s seat. Carpenter was located at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday, charged and taken to the Jasper County Jail. He also was cited for violation of conditions of restricted license.

• Brenda S. Daughtrey, 32, of Newton was charged with third-degree theft following an investigation by authorities of a theft reported July 1 by Optimae Life Services. According to court records, the victim, a client of Optimae, was issued a check for Children and Families of Iowa to purchase a laptop computer with the help of Daughtrey, her Optimae representative. On May 16, video surveillance at Advantage Credit Union showed Daughtrey cashing the check for $528.57 and placing the money in her purse. The victim never received the money or the laptop. Daughtrey was located at her residence at 11:48 a.m. Tuesday, charged and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Sue A. McPherren, 53, of Newton was charged with domestic assault after authorities responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at 6:44 p.m. Monday at 430 N. Eighth Ave. E. #11. McPherren was charged for allegedly assaulting a male and was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
