Local residents win at the Iowa State Fair

• Jake Reed of Mingo won first place in the men’s right and left lightweight divisions of the 35th annual Monster Arm Wrestling Tournament.

• Kelsey Reed of Mingo won first place in the women’s right bantam division and women’s left bantam division of the 35th annual Monster Arm Wrestling Tournament.

• Emily Wilson of Colfax won second place in the women’s right middleweight division and women’s left bantam division of the 35th annual Monster Arm Wrestling Tournament.

• Randy Clark of Monroe and teammate Ramon Scarpino of Des Moines won second place in class C of the open doubles division in the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament.

• Phyllis Olson of Newton won first place and a $200 cash prize in the dessert pie division of the Pillsbury Pie Baking Championship and third place in banana bread — no nuts in the Chiquita Ultimate Banana Bread competition.

• Regina Sarmento of Newton won second place in the Coach’s Favorite Chili Contest.

• Emily MIller of Newton won third place in the western pleasure — riders 14 and under division of the Open Western Horse Show.

• Jeffrey King of Newton won first place in the Mine is the Best BBQ Sauce competition.

• Bruce Wehrle of Lynnville won second place in the Blue Ribbon Baked Beans competition.
