Newton Police Department
• Ronald E. Carpenter, 48, of Newton was charged with assault after officers were dispatched at 7:34 p.m. Wednesday to 1620 S. 15th Ave. W. on report of an assault. The victim approached Carpenter and asked him to stop using profanities while on his cell phone. The victim alleged Carpenter punched him in the left eye and the scuffle continued on the ground in front of the back door of the victim’s house. A witness reported Carpenter assaulted the victim. Carpenter was released to appear in court.
• Raymond M. Dydell, 36, of Newton was cited for following too close after officers were dispatched at 7:18 p.m. Wednesday to the intersection of West Fourth Street North and South Eighth Avenue West on report of an accident. Martin rear-ended a vehicle driven by Matthias P. Meredith. The accident caused $100 in damage to Dydell’s car and $500 to Meredith’s.
