To the editor:
The 2013 Newton Fourth of July Parade was a huge success. Approximately 300 local veterans marched or rode together in the parade. They were all treated to a rousing “Welcome Home!”
The officers and members of the Newton American Legion Post 111 would like to publicly thank all the local individuals, groups and businesses that contributed to this great event. The post-parade luncheon at Newton Post 111 welcomed and served about 250 veterans and their families at great meal.
The Sons of the American Legion manned the grill and cooked and served more than 500 grilled burgers and hot dogs, complete with potato salad, beans, chips and cake and cupcakes. No one left hungry.
Thank you, citizens of Newton, for making this a special day for your veterans.
