Auditions for “The Dixie Swim Club,” directed by John Dougan and Scott Schaeffer, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Newton Community Theatre.
Parts are available for five women. Production dates are Oct. 4, 5, 6, 10, 11 and 12.
In “The Dixie Swim Club,” five southern women, whose friendships began years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. They meet at the same beach cottage to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other’s lives.
“The Dixie Swim Club” ladies are Sheree, the spunky team captain, desperately trying to maintain her organized and “perfect” life; Dinah, the wisecracking overachiever and career dynamo who is frustrated with her personal life; Lexie, the pampered and outspoken one who enjoys being married — over and over and over again; the self-deprecating and acerbic Vernadette, who has decided to just give in and embrace the chaos; and the sweet, eager-to-please Jeri Neal.
As their lives unfold and years pass, the women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges that life flings at them.
