Newton Police Department

• Ashley E. Brown, 28, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after officers were dispatched at 11:08 a.m. Monday to Walmart on report of a shoplifter. A witness saw Brown place sun glasses on the top of her head then attempt to walk out of the store. The sunglasses were worth $20.33. She was released to appear in court.

• Jessica L. Morris, 25, of Newton was charged with third-degree burglary after officers were dispatched at 1:06 p.m. Tuesday to 429 E. Seventh St. N. on report of a female entering vehicles on the street. Upon arrival an officer saw Morris inside a vehicle and she said that she was just returning the keys to the car. The owner of the vehicle then approached and said they didn’t know Morris. Morris also admitted to stealing a coffee cup from another car. She was taken to jail.

• Tyler J. Plante, 18, and Logan D. Plante, 17, both of Newton were charged with possession of marijuana after officers were dispatched at 10:30 a.m. Monday to 1024 E. 12th St. N. on report of two males smoking marijuana. Logan was a runaway from Youth Homes of Mid America in Johnston. They were both released to appear in court.
