Power lines blamed for fatal Iowa plane crash

WATERLOO (AP) — The National Transportation Safety Board is blaming power lines for an eastern Iowa plane crash that fatally injured the pilot and his passenger.

The board report issued this week says it can’t be determined whether pilot William Konicek knew about the recently installed power lines near the unimproved airstrip in Clutier. The accident occurred Nov. 28. Officials say the 69-year-old Konicek had flown to Clutier on previous occasions.

Konicek died at the scene. His passenger, 64-year-old Max Morrison, also of Traer, died Jan. 7 at a hospital.
