Minnie Ellen Bower

Minnie Ellen Bower, 93, went to meet her Savior on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Newton Health Care Center in Newton, Iowa.  A funeral service will be held at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.  The family will greet friends form 6-8 P.M., Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at the funeral home.  Memorials to Quakerdale may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Minnie Ellen, the daughter of Frederick and Gertrude (Dubois) Campbell was born August 9, 1919 in Muscatine, Iowa.  She graduated from Muscatine High School in 1937.  On October 14, 1937 Minnie Ellen was united in marriage with D. Bernell Bower in Muscatine.  She was employed at Western Auto in Muscatine and later as the manager of the lunch counter at Woolworths in Newton.

She committed herself to Christ at the First Friends Church in Muscatine and worked for the Lord in children’s church, choir, as pianist, and in women’s ministries. Minnie Ellen enjoyed her family, doing crafts, gardening, and loved animals. She was a dedicated wife and precious mother.  Minnie Ellen will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Those left to honor Minnie Ellen’s memory are her husband of more than 75 years, D. Bernell Bower of Newton; son, Gerald Bower of Grundy Center, Iowa; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Ardith Bower of Lampe, Missouri; daughter, Darlene Russell of Baxter, Iowa; her nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Marian Bower of Muscatine; and her many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clinton Campbell; brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Barbara Campbell; her daughter-in-law, Janice Bower; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
