Renewable fuels get boost

David Witherspoon, head of renewable fuels at Syngenta, talked of his company's three-year commitment to contribute $1 to the renewable fuels industry for every acre planted with Enogen trait technology, beginning with this year's growing season. Witherspoon along with Kelly Manning (far left) of Growth Energy and Delayne Johnson, general manager of Quad County Corn Processors  of Galva, were at Iowa Speedway in Newton last Saturday to make the announcement during the American Ethanol 200 NASCAR truck race. Syngenta presented its first payment to help support ethanol production and America's Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). Accepting the contribution on behalf of area agriculture organizations in Iowa committed to ethanol production was Raymond Defenbaugh (right), president of Big River Resources of West Burlington.
