Looking Back in Newton’s History – Week of July 21-27

25 Years Ago This Week – 1988

This week construction of modern twin theaters at the Capital was to begin.  The present huge stage was constructed for live theater in the 1920s. The theater has 830 seats as of today while the new Capitol will have two theaters of 315 seats… The Newton Fire Department is asking Newton to unite to educate our children on the Dos and Don’ts of Fire Safety by donating to the S.A.F.E. House project… The Optimist Club heard about the Newton Chamber of Commerce Center Development Plan, specifically the Skiff Medical Center campus area and the Commerce Plaza area.
