Newton lineman camp is next week

A football camp designed to teach players fundamentals of line play on both sides of the football begins Monday in Newton.

Newton Senior High head football coach Ed Ergenbright and his staff will focus on basic skills of the offensive and defensive lineman stance along with takeoff, blocking techniques, shedding blocks and fighting pressure. This is a non-contact camp.

The camp will be held Monday through Wednesday, July 22-24, at H.A. Lynn Stadium. Cost for the camp is $25 per camper, or $40 if there are two campers from one family. Participants receive a free camp shirt.

The first session is for boys going into the seventh and eighth grades this fall and goes from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. each day. Boys going into ninth through 12th grades this fall will be in camp session from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

Campers report to the locker room facility on the south end of the stadium grounds each day of camp. They should bring shorts, a T-shirt and football cleats. Water will be provided during camp.

Boys can register at the door 20 minutes before the start of their age-group session.
