George A. Griffin

George A. Griffin, 86, of Silvis died Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Lighthouse at Silvis.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd. 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, Ill. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial is at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

George was born Jan. 9, 1927, in Newton, the son of Alva and Edna Clare Horn Griffin.  He married Ruby E. Danielson on Aug. 28, 1954, in Moline. She preceded him in death on Jan. 20, 2013.

George was a technical writer with John Deere Harvester Works for 35 years, retiring Oct. 29, 1982.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moline where he enjoyed volunteering his service. George had a passion for working with his hands and loved woodworking. He also enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens.

Survivors include his daughters, Dianne (Gary) Thornton of Moline, Ill., Susanne Lynn of Little Rock, Ark., and Rebecca (Matthew) Virta of Cheverly, Md.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dr. Larry P. Jones; his sister Elizabeth; and a brother, Joe.
