xperts checking fire at Iowa judge’s home

HAMPTON (AP) — The Iowa State Fire Marshal Division wants to make sure there’s no crime involved in a fire at a judge’s home in Hampton.

The Mason City Globe Gazette says the fire was reported about 6:45 a.m. Monday. It damaged the house occupied by District Judge Stephen Carroll and his wife, Wendy Abrahamson. They were out of the country Monday, but Carroll’s daughter Jennifer had been watching the home. She says she left for work just minutes before the fire was reported.

Ronald Humphrey with the Fire Marshal Division says the initial investigation has yielded nothing to suggest the fire was deliberately set. But he says “there’s always somebody mad at a judge for some reason.”
