State awards $52 million for multi-family housing

DES MOINES (AP) — A state agency has awarded $52 million in awards to multi-family housing projects designed to help communities recover from devastating flooding in 2008.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority announced Monday it had awarded the funds to 19 communities across the state. The money was awarded after the agency received 67 applications requesting more than $112.2 million.

The Community Development Block Grants are funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Cedar Rapids received funding for the most projects, with seven proposals supported. Other large cities with funded projects include Davenport, Des Moines, Dubuque and West Des Moines.

Smaller cities receiving funding include Charles City, Mason City, Bloomfield, Carlisle, Norwalk, Missouri Valley, Woodbine, Grimes, Grinnell, Waverly, Tiffin, Ford Madison and Mount Pleasant.
