Area Roundup: CMB softball dominates at Gilbert

The Collins-Maxwel/Baxter softball team took to the road on Tuesday, and the team came away with a 12-4 win at Gilbert.

The Raiders fell behind 2-1 after two innings, and their hopes seemed bleak, but in the top of the fifth, they put up three runs. Six more runs in the top of the sixth inning turned what was a close game into a blowout. The Raiders added two additional runs in the top of the seventh.

Senior pitcher Cheyanne Warne got the win. She pitched all seven innings, giving up just two earned runs on seven hits and a walk. Warne went 1-for-4 at the plate with a double.

Becky Williams led the team with four RBIs on two hits in her five at-bats. Williams also scored a run and stole a base. Payge Jurgens drove in three runs on her two hits that included a double. Mikayla Eslinger was 1-for-3 with a two-RBI single. She stole two bases and walked. Abby Applegate had the final two RBI for CMB. She walked and singled twice.

The troubling baseball season for the Collins-Maxwell/Baxter Raiders (1-17) did not get any easier on Tuesday, when the team traveled to Nevada and dropped both games of a doubleheader by a combined score of 18-5.
