DES MOINES (AP) — Postal workers still found a way to deliver the mail even after floodwaters swallowed a semitrailer truck carrying letters across Iowa this spring.
The Des Moines Register reports that letters from the truck that was submerged in Prairie Creek near Des Moines on May 30 were delivered in early June with a note of explanation.
Postal Service spokesman Richard Watkins says workers at a processing center in Des Moines worked through a weekend to recover and dry out more than 350,000 first-class letters from the truck.
Jeanine Strodtman of Ames says she was grateful to receive the water-damaged mail from her grandson that the postal service delivered late.
