Newton Police Department

• Justin H. Anderson, 29, and Nathan M. Beintema, 30, both of Newton, were charged with public intoxication after officers received a report of seven people fighting at 10:44 p.m. Monday at 600 E. Second St. S. Beintema, who is homeless, has a prior public intoxication arrest. Anderson and Beintema were taken to jail.

• Elijah P. Harmon, 31, of Newton was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after officers received a report of a domestic fight in progress at 7:30 p.m. Monday at 400 N. Second Ave. E. After questioning Harmon and smelling burnt marijuana, the officer began patting down Harmon, and Harmon admitted that he had a pipe in his right front pocket. He was taken to jail.

• Tara L. Christy, 18, of Newton was charged with serious domestic assault after officers received a report of a domestic disturbance at 5:44 p.m. Monday at 323 E. Fourth St. N. Upon arrival, officers saw the victim had a wound that had been reopened by a broken beer bottle. Christy was taken to jail.

• Scott A. Dawson, 41, of Newton was charged with criminal trespass after officers received a report of a trespasser at 2:31 p.m. Sunday at 501 N. Second Ave. W. The owner of the apartment building said that Dawson had been evicted. Dawson was released to appear in court.

• Richard L. Norton Jr., 33, of Newton was charged with public intoxication after officers were dispatched to 1111 N. 11th Ave. E. at 10:47 p.m. Sunday on a report of a domestic fight. Officers said that Norton resisted and became angry when they told him he would be given a shirt at the jail. He was taken to jail.

• Wendy J. Vanderpol, 35, and April A. Wilcox, 33, both of Newton, were charged with criminal trespass after officers were dispatched to 501 N. Second Ave. W. at 2:31 p.m. Sunday on a report of trespassers. The owner of the apartment building said both Vanderpol and Wilcox had been evicted. Vanderpol and Wilcox were released to appear in court.

• Phillip J. Vanderburg I, 42, of Newton was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after officers were dispatched to McDonalds at 6:24 p.m. Saturday on a report of a male sleeping in his car. Vanderburg stated that he had six beers. was released to appear in court.
