12-year-old boy rescued from swollen Iowa river

CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) — Authorities say a 12-year-old boy has been rescued from the swollen Wapsipinicon River in eastern Iowa.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were sent to a rural spot northwest of Central City about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The boy had waded into the river, but the high way and swift current prevented his return to dry land.

The deputies determined that a boat was needed to help the boy, so a county conservation resource officer responded with one. The boy soon was plucked from the river and taken to safety.

The sheriff’s office says he wasn’t injured.
