Newton Police Department

• Travis Wayne Howerton, 24, of Kellogg was charged with interference with official acts after authorities were dispatched at 10:27 p.m. to Newton Plaza Apartments in reference to an assault that was taking place. When officers arrived on the scene, Howerton was leaving in his vehicle, and officers activated their emergency lights. Howerton then exited his vehicle and the officers pursued him, eventually incapacitating him with a Taser. Howerton also was wanted on a Tama Police Department warrant for assault and an Urbandale Police Department warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia. Howerton was taken to Broadlawns for medical attention and will be picked up by Urbandale authorities upon release.

• Richard J. Holmes, 17, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were dispatched at 4:56 p.m. Monday to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. Holmes allegedly attempted to steal a DVD with a value of $16.01. He was released to appear in court.

• Nathan D. Martin, 23, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were dispatched at 8 a.m. May 15 to 322 W. 11th St. N. in reference to a theft. Martin allegedly stole several items with an estimated cost under $200. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was located at 8:32 p.m. Friday when officers were called to 714 W. Eighth St. N. for an unwanted guest. Martin was taken to jail.

• Jerad M. McGinley, 28, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were dispatched at 3:27 p.m. Monday to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. McGinley allegedly attempted to steal $56.03 worth of merchandise. McGinley was released to appear in court.

• Joshua D. Stubbe, 25, of Newton was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force initiated contact with Stubbe at 3:02 p.m. June 12 in the 100 block of First Avenue East because he was wanted on a Jasper County warrant for violation of pre-trial conditions. Stubbe was charged for allegedly having a glass marijuana pipe in his possession. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Lindsi A. Voshell, 24, of Mitchellville was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were dispatched at 3:27 p.m. Monday to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. Voshell allegedly attempted to steal $56.03 worth of merchandise. Voshell was released to appear in court.

• Alion White, 28, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped him at 3:11 p.m. Friday and confirmed his license was suspended. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
