Dale Vander Ploeg Kingery

Dale Vander Ploeg Kingery was born Aug. 22, 1947, the second daughter of Edwin and Cornelia Vander Ploeg. She passed away June 11, 2013, at Griffin Nursing Home in Knoxville.

Dale worked as a waitress at Duncan’s Café in Monroe, a secretary at Vernon Company in Newton, executive secretary at HFC in Washington, D.C., and finally for the VA Medical Center in Iowa City. She retired from the VA after 30 years with numerous service awards. Dale also sold Avon products, provided in-home daycare, and was a Weight Watchers staffer for many years.

Dale married Ray Kingery on Dec. 23, 1966. She is survived by her husband, Ray of Iowa City; son, Larry of Tampa, Fla.; granddaughter Lidya Martens; and great-grandson Jackson Martens of Iowa City. Dale has two surviving sisters, Beverly Romick of Otley and Ruth McConeghy of Ankeny; brother Lynn Vander Ploeg of Otley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 10, at the Monroe First Baptist Church with lunch to follow. Casual dress is requested. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Monroe First Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. The Garden Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
