Mustangs outlast Nevada

In a continued game from June 15, the Mustangs of Prairie City-Monroe pulled one out against Nevada, 3-2.

Freshman Austin Brown pitched all seven innings for the Mustangs in the game, surrendering just two earned runs on six scattered hits. He also had three strikeouts.

The only extra base hit on the night came off the bat of senior shortstop Ethan Kain. Kain went 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base.

The other RBI for PCM came off the bat of Trey Lindsay, who went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

The Mustangs fell behind early in the third inning, but they rallied for two runs in the fifth to take the lead. A Nevada run in the bottom of the sixth inning tied up the score at two before the Mustangs answered back with a run in the top of the seventh inning to seal the game.

The win was PCM’s sixth in a row.

The Mustangs also played a full game immediately following the continuation in Game One. The second game was not as fortunate to the Mustangs, who fell to Nevada, 10-3

Brown pitched five innings in this game as well and took the loss for the Mustangs. Tyler Townsend came on in relief, which is when the game was blown wide open by the Cubs with six runs coming in just two innings of work.

Clay Cooper had a single in four at-bats with the lone Mustang RBI. Junior right fielder Zach Uhlenhopp led the team w ih two hits on the day. Uhlenhopp went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Mustangs.

Ron Marshall, Alex DeWitte and Chase Keuning scored the three runs for the Mustangs.

The team was behind 3-2 after two innings, bu the Cubs’ bats woke up late in the day. Nevada scored seven runs in the final three frames to run away with Game Two.

Troy Vittetoe also had a base hit in the game for the Mustangs.

PCM will attempt to rebound when they face off against the South Hamilton Hawks on the Hawks’ home field tonight.
