William C. Vander Hoek

William C. Vander Hoek, 84, of Prairie City, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Christian Reformed Church in Prairie City with burial following at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Coburn Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church or the Christian Opportunity Center. The son of Arie and Christiana (Vanden Heuval) Vander Hoek, William was born on Nov. 22, 1928, in Fairmont. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. On Nov. 23, 1951, he was united in marriage to Mildred Elise Branderhorst, and was married for 60 years. William lived on the same farm on the old Diamond Trail Road for 58 years. He was a faithful member or the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church for most of his life and served in many ways, including being an elder.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Arlene McMinnville of Oregon, Gerald (Mary) Vander Hoek of Denver, Colo., and Kathy (Dennis) Van Engen of Sioux Center; seven grandchildren, Travis Worden, Natalia (William) Powers, Carrie (Jorge) Vander Hoek-Quintanilla, Jonathan Vander Hoek, Mandy (Carlos) Silva, Billee Van Engen and Lucas Van Engen; five great-grandchildren, Noah, Isaac, Lydia, Asher and Olivia. Also surviving are two sisters, Luella (Wilbur) Van Ryswyk of Pella, Patricia (Kenneth) Van Wyke in Pella; and a sister-in-law, Janie Vander Hoek of Pella. Preceding William in death were his parents; his wife, Mildred in 2012; and a brother, Arlie Vander Hoek.
