• Three teenagers were charged Friday with third-degree burglary, an aggravated misdemeanor, for allegedly breaking into vehicles and stealing items. At approximately 12:45 a.m. June 1, authorities observed three males in the 800 block of North Fourth Avenue West. The males ran from police but were later identified as 17-year-olds Jordan M. Sexton, Byron A. Sharp and Jordan P. Wilson, all of Newton. Sexton admitted to serving as a lookout while the others stole items from vehicles, and Wilson also claimed to have served as a lookout while the others stole the items. One theft victim reported a digital camera valued at $100 and her daughter’s wallet had been stolen from her car. The daughter’s ID was located in the area where the suspects had fled, but the camera was not found. An iPod was found in Sharp’s room, and he admitted to taking it from a vehicle. All three teens were charged and referred to juvenile court services.
• Jonathan Bailey, 21, of Bondurant was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped him at 3:58 a.m. Thursday in the 900 block of North 11th Avenue East and determined his license had been suspended. He was released to appear in court.
• Jerry E. Bird Jr., 34, of Newton was charged with third-degree criminal mischief after authorities responded to a complaint of a person breaking windows at 9:57 p.m. Thursday at 814 S. Fifth Ave. E. in Newton. Bird was charged for allegedly throwing a landscaping brick through a home window and breaking a 1999 Ford Ranger window and windshield, causing an estimated $800 damage total. He was released to appear in court.
• Larry J. Bregar, 25, of Newton was charged with public intoxication after authorities responded to a complaint of a verbal domestic situation at 2:10 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of First Avenue East. Police arrived and observed Bregar in the Sunset Park area. A breath sample with the Datamaster indicated a blood alcohol content of .153. Bregar was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Aynn M. Coady, 22, of Newton was charged with public intoxication after authorities responded to a report of a domestic fight at 2:10 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of North Eighth Avenue East. A Datamaster test indicated a blood alcohol content of .181. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Billy A. Edwards, 47, of Newton was arrested on a Marshalltown warrant for aggravated assault after authorities located him at 6:29 p.m. Thursday at TPI. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
• Paul A. Rex, 46, of Newton was charged with public intoxication, third or subsequent offense, after authorities observed him walking on the shoulder of the road at 2:20 a.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of Highway 14 North. Rex had bloodshot, watery eyes and was found to have been charged with public intoxication on three previous occasions. Rex was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Alexander T. Richardson, 23, of Newton was charged with public intoxication after authorities responded to a fight at 11:16 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of North Second Avenue West. Richardson stated he and his girlfriend were yelling but not involved in a physical fight. Richardson was arrested and released to a sober person.
• Rachel M. Scott, 17, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft and criminal trespass after authorities responded to a shoplifting complaint at 5:04 p.m. May 27 at Walmart. Scott was charged for allegedly attempting to leave the store with concealed items in her purse with a total value of $53.96. Walmart provided police with a copy of a trespass warning that was issued Feb. 9 against Scott. She was charged with fifth-degree theft and trespass and referred to juvenile court services.
• Mary A. Stewart, 49, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities responded to a theft complaint at 12:25 p.m. Thursday at Hy-Vee. She was charged for allegedly concealing two bottles of liquor, valued at a total of $106.01, in her purse and not paying for them when checking out. She was released to appear in court.
• Joan B. Wilcox, 50, of Newton was arrested on a Marion County warrant for third-degree theft after authorities located her at 6:58 a.m. Thursday at 218 W. Ninth St. S. She was taken to Monroe and turned over to Marion County authorities.

Sheriff’s Office
• Corey A. Allison, 23, of Newton was charged with possession of marijuana (third offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia at 1:34 p.m. Saturday in the 7700 block of Highway F48 West. Allison was observed fishing at the South Skunk Bridge in Jasper County. As the officer approached Allison, he observed Allison smoking marijuana from a pipe. A leafy green substance was found in the pipe and tested positive in the field for marijuana.
• Michael D. Bozarth, 56, of Newton was charged with possession of methamphetamines (third offense), possession of marijuana (second offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities stopped him at 10:56 p.m. Saturday for a traffic violation in the 1900 block of Highway T12 North. A purple cloth bag was observed stuffed under the console of the vehicle. Inside the bag were two clear plastic bags that contained crystal material. Bozarth said the bags contained methamphetamine. Also inside the cloth bag was a plastic bag and a round container containing a green leafy substance. Bozarth admitted this was marijuana and admitted to smoking it earlier. Both substances tested positive in the field. The cloth bag also contained two pipes, one made of glass and one of metal.
• Charles Cheek, 46, of Colfax was arrested Saturday on a warrant for 25 various traffic charges in connection to a high speed chase on June 8. He was transferred from the Altoona Police Department to Jasper County for those traffic charges.
• Mia R. Hughes, 17, of Bondurant and Bailey R. Johnson, 17, of Waukee were cited for being minors in the possession of alcohol at midnight Monday. Hughes blood alcohol content level was .012 and Johnson’s was .043.
• Luis M. Sandoval, 31, of Newton was arrested at 12:45 a.m. Friday on an outstanding warrant for operating a vehicle while under the influence.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
