City to host nuisance ordinance open house Monday

Over the past nine months, the City of Newton has been analyzing and working on improvements to its nuisance ordinances, as well as its ordinance enforcement process.

Revisions to those codes and the enforcement process were adopted May 20. In an effort to better educate the public about its efforts to improve Newton’s curb appeal, the city is hosting an open house for citizens to meet with city staff to discuss the changes and learn about the nuisance reporting system.

Those who attend also will see how code enforcement and curb appeal connect with the recommendations of the city’s recently adopted comprehensive plan. The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 17, in the City Hall atrium/lobby and end at 6 p.m.
