By the end of this month, someone is going to have some extra spending money. A lot of extra spending money.
As in $1,000 in extra spending money.
The Newton Daily News, in partnership with the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce, Skiff Medical Center, and several Newton-area businesses, will host its first-ever Great Treasure Hunt beginning Monday. All you have to do to participate is read the Daily News and check Facebook for clues each day.
A medallion will be hidden (don’t bother looking yet, it’s not out there) somewhere within the City of Newton. The person who finds it should bring it to the Daily News office at 200 First Ave. E. during regular business hours to win $1,000 in Chamber Dollars.
The first set of clues will appear in the Monday edition of the Daily News. The next day, a clue will be posted on the Chamber’s Facebook Page and shared via the Daily News page.
The next day, a clue will be published in the Daily News. The day after that, it will appear on the Skiff Medical Center Facebook page and shared via the Daily News page.
Clues will alternate in a similar fashion each day for two weeks, culminating with a clue offered Friday, June 28, on the Daily News Facebook page and shared on the Chamber and Skiff pages. If the medallion still has not been found beforehand, a final clue will be given at noon Monday, July 1, on the south steps of the Jasper County Courthouse.
As always, there are some general rules associated with the contest:
• Anyone is eligible to participate in the 2013 Great Treasure Hunt, except Daily News employees and members of their immediate families.
• The treasure will be hidden on public property.
• No digging or climbing is required, and destruction of property is not necessary and will not be tolerated. The Daily News is not responsible for any injuries or destruction of property.
• You must read the paper or visit the appropriate Facebook pages in order to get your daily clues. Clues will not be given over the phone and no additional hints will be given.
