4-H is collaborating with Big Brothers Big Sisters and area organizations so local children can learn the technique of gardening and healthy eating. The garden will be on land donated by Doug Woebbeking near the Newton Municipal Airport. The group is sponsored by grants and the Iowa State University Extension Service. Master Gardener Toni Peksa is helping teach this group. Items planted this year are tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, watermelon, squash, pumpkins and beans. Food harvested will be donated to the Jasper County Food Pantry and used as 4-H projects for the 4-H members.
