Newton Police Blotter

• James A. Knutsen, 33, of Newton was charged with driving while license barred after authorities stopped him at 3:19 a.m. June 3 for a traffic violation in the 400 block of North 19th Avenue East. He also was cited for speeding and was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Mark E. Lawrence, 51, of Waterloo was charged with public intoxication after authorities responded to a report at 4:50 p.m. Saturday of an intoxicated male falling down at the Iowa Speedway. Lawrence could not stand on his own. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Kiel J. McMahon, 30, of Newton was charged with assault, a Class D felony, after authorities responded to an assault complaint at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The victim had two swollen puffy black eyes, stitches on the right eye and a fractured skull. The victim stated he was sleeping inside a vehicle at 1119 N. Fourth Ave. E. when he was assaulted by McMahon. Witnesses observed McMahon entering the victim’s vehicle and then leaving the scene. After McMahon left, the victim was rushed to the Skiff Medical Center Emergency Room. McMahon was charged and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Richard L. Norton Jr., 33, of Newton was arrested at 6:31 p.m. Friday on a Dallas County warrant after authorities located him at 1111 N. 11th Ave. E. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Suzanne M. Paschka, 48, of Newton was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped her at 4:37 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of First Avenue West. She was released to appear in court.

• Angela R. Shaver, 34, of Newton was charged with fifth-degree criminal mischief after authorities responded to a complaint of several people wielding golf clubs and wanting to start a fight at 3:08 a.m. May 31 at Newton Plaza Apartments, 901 S. 13th Ave. E. The victim stated Shaver broke one of the windows to her apartment with a golf club, causing an estimated $130 damage. Shaver was charged and released to appear in court.

• Sarah M. Simmons, 35, of Winterset was charged with driving while license suspended after authorities stopped her at 1:20 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of North Third Avenue East. Simmons was released to appear in court. A passenger in the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt and was given a warning.

• Demetrius D. Williamson, 25, of Newton was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief after authorities responded to a criminal mischief report at 10:34 a.m. Saturday at 308 First Ave. E. Williamson was charged for allegedly kicking the passenger side front door of the victim’s vehicle, causing an estimated $250 damage. He was charged and released to appear in court.
