• Tony D. Bass, 40, of Newton was charged with possession of marijuana and interference with official acts and Rodney V. Barbee, 43, of Newton was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities responded to a report of marijuana smoke at 1:18 p.m. Tuesday at 1024 E. 12th St. N. #3. Barbee gave an officer permission to search the residence, and the officer observed Bass putting something in his mouth. The officer handcuffed Bass and ordered him to spit the item out, which he did. The item was .7 gram of marijuana wrapped in paper, and another 4.6 grams of marijuana was located in the toilet. Bass admitted the marijuana was his. The officer also found a metal “ninja” marijuana crusher/de-seeder with marijuana residue inside, which Barbee admitted was his. Both men were released to appear in court.
• David J. Dehart, 19, of Newton was charged with serious assault after authorities were called to Skiff Medical Center at 11:43 p.m. June 3 in reference to an assault. The victim stated he and friends were at Walmart when he squeezed a little lotion on Dehart’s head as a joke. Dehart then allegedly punched the victim three times in the mouth, knocking out two of the victim’s teeth. Dehart was charged and released to appear in court.
