Newton Police Department
• Craynes K. McGinley, 23, of Newton was cited with failure to maintain control after traveling east at 9:43 p.m. Monday in the 1100 block of North Fourth Avenue West and striking a legally parked car owned by Brandon W. Taylor of Newton. Taylor’s vehicle sustained an estimated $800 damage and McGinley’s an estimated $1,500 damage.
• James C. Ryther, 42, of Newton was arrested on an outstanding warrant for probation violation after authorities located him at 11:30 p.m. Monday at 815 First St. N. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Three Newton teens were charged with interference with official acts after authorities observed them walking in the 800 block of North Fourth Avenue West at 12:45 a.m. Saturday and stopped to investigate. The suspects fled on foot. One suspect, 17-year-old Jordan P. Wilson, was located in the 300 block of West Ninth Street North. He admitted he and two other males had been entering cars and taking items. The other suspects, identified as 17-year-olds Byron A. Sharp and Jordan M. Sexton also were located and charged. They were referred to juvenile court services.
Prairie City Police Department
• On May 26, 2013 at 11:45 p.m. Prairie City Police were called to assist the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office with an underage drinking party at 11:45 p.m. May 26 at 8347 S. 80th Ave. W. Several underage subjects were located. At the request of the deputy, officers cited four 18-year-old Prairie City teens with possession of alcohol while underage. The following were cited and released: Nicolaus R. McCombs, Samantha A. Smith, Mitchell L. Williams and Jacob D. VanWyk.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. It is the policy of the Newton Daily News to release the names of individuals charged with a crime who are 16 and older.
