Newton falls to Boone 9-6 at home
The Newton Senior High baseball team welcomed Boone to Woodland Park on Wednesday night, but the Cardinals left their home field with a bad taste in their mouths, falling to the Toreadors, 9-6.
The visiting Toreadors made it clear that they would not let their brief visit to Newton go to waste as they pounced on Cardinal senior pitcher Jacob Hill early on. Hill had a rocky first inning, allowing a two-out rally by the Toreadors that was capped off by a two-run homer that cleared the left field fence with relative ease.
The Cardinals bounced back a little bit in the bottom of the inning when sophomore Tyler Wood scored from third base on a double down the left field line by junior third baseman Evan Shimon.
