Central Iowa police search for teenage girl

DAYTON (AP) — Police are searching for a missing central Iowa teen they believe was one of two girls abducted by a man who offered them a ride.

Police are searching for 15-year-old Kathlynn Shepard. Des Moines television station KCCI reports that she and a 12-year-old girl were taken from a Dayton bus stop Monday.

Police say they believe the man lured the girls into his truck under false pretenses.

The 12-year-old was found later when she walked out of woods near a farmhouse in Boone County.

Police say they had located a suspect in the abduction late Monday, but Shepard was still missing early Tuesday.

Authorities asked search volunteers to gather this morning at 10 a.m. at the Dayton Community Center to look for the girl.
