Janet Marilyn Freese

Janet Marilyn Freese, 76 of Sully, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. There will be a private family interment at a later date. Memorials may be directed towards either the Make-A-Wish Foundation or to JDRF. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Janet and her family.

Janet Burns was born on Nov. 11, 1936, in the Gilman area to Layton and Dora Paul Burns. On June 30, 1956, she was united in marriage to Clarence Freese in Marshalltown. They resided in Marshalltown for two years before moving to Gilman. Janet was employed with the Gilman School District as well as being a farmer’s wife in the Gilman area and then retiring approximately 10 years ago where she and Clarence called Sully home. Janet was a member of the Gilman Auxiliary Club and also enjoyed cooking and being outside, whether it was fishing, camping or boating. Above all else, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Janet truly cherished her family.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Clarence; daughter Tana (Dale) Brand of Sully; grandchildren Eric (Faye) Brand of Sully and Cory (Heidi) Brand of Searsboro; great-grandchildren Carter, Abigail, Braxton, Breckyn and Brooks; sister Linda (Richard) Wilkening of Perry; sister-in-law Jo Freese of Baxter; brother-in-law: Elmer (Pricilla) Freese of Marshalltown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents; a son in infancy; brothers Roger and Ronald “Butch” Burns; and a brother-in-law Jerome Freese.
