Newton Police Department

• Jennifer T. Dearinger, 21, of Ankeny, was charged with driving while revoked after officers witnessed her vehicle travelling east on First Ave. E at a high rate of speed on Monday at 2:45 a.m. Following a traffic stop, Dearinger was arrested and taken to jail.

• Jamie J. Ray, 32, was charged with first-degree fraudulent practices on Monday at 1029 E. 10th St. N. Officers were alerted that Ray had received $10,736.64 in unemployment benefits from March 2011-November 2011 after asserting that she was unemployed, although she was employed by two businesses during the period. Ray was released to appear.

• Kenneth D. Van Veen, 71, of Newton was cited for failure to maintain control on Friday after authorities responded to an accident at 12:05 in the 300 block of South Eighth Avenue East. According to witnesses, Van Veen accelerated at a high rate of speed, passing them. Van Veen then lost control of the vehicle, which hit a fire hydrant and rolled over one time before hitting a retaining wall. Damages were estimated at $1,000.

• Mary L. Wilharm, 79, of Newton was cited for failure to maintain control after she struck a vehicle owned by Scott A. Versteegh of Newton at 8:24 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of West 13th Street South. Wilharm allegedly swerved to miss a squirrel and collided with Versteeg’s vehicle, which was legally parked on the west side of the road. Wilharm’s vehicle struck the bumper of Versteegh’s vehicle and then rolled on its driver side. Damages were estimated at $5,000.

• An 11-year-old male and a 13-year-old male were charged with disorderly conduct after officers responded to a fight at Newton Senior High School at 3:33 p.m. May 3. A teacher informed officers that the males engaged in a fight after exiting a bus. Both were charged, and the case was referred to juvenile authorities.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

• Annie M. Stover, 32, of Newton turned herself in at 6:49 a.m. at the Jasper County Jail on a warrant for failure to appear in court.

Prairie City Police Department

• Shawn E. Squires, 29, of Prairie City was arrested at 2 a.m. April 24 on an outstanding arrest warrant from the Pleasant Hill Police Department for disorderly conduct. Officers located Squires at a residence in the 400 block of East Eighth Street. He was arrested and transported to the Polk County line and turned over to Pleasant Hill police.

• Bridgette S. Williams, 22, of Prairie City was arrested May 7 on outstanding arrest warrants from the Prairie City Police Department for two counts of forgery and fourth-degree theft. The charges stem from an incident reported to police on April 21, when Williams allegedly took two checks from a 45-year-old Prairie City man, forged his signature and cashed the checks. The total amount of the checks was $350. Williams was picked up at the Polk County Jail and transferred to the Jasper County Jail on the warrants.

• Prairie City police were dispatched to a personal injury accident at 3:36 p.m. May 7 in the 100 block of North State Street. Rebecca K. Anderson, 16, of Mingo was traveling southbound on North State Street when a 7-year-old male ran from behind a school bus into her lane of traffic. The boy was struck by her vehicle, receiving injuries. Prairie City ambulance transported the boy to a Des Moines hospital. No charges were filed in the incident.
