PCM, CMB girls golf seasons end Monday

After cruising through the regular season, the Prairie City-Monroe girls golf team’s season came to an abrupt end in Class 3A regional action in Albia.

Senior Maddie Peters advanced to the next round as an individual, but the Mustangs finished third by one stroke with a 404 to be left out. Nevada won the meet with a 394 and Albia edged out PCM with a 403.

“It was a disappointing finish for the Mustang girls today,” PCM coach Val Edwards said. “We had a great season with the girls and had our best record for several years.”

Peters led the team with a 94 and will advance to play at Chariton next week. Rounding out the Mustangs’ scoring was Cassidy Van Veen with a 101, Kaitlyn Wilkie with a 104 and Hannah Hugen with a 105. Rachel Phifer and Taylor Phifer contributed non-scoring rounds of 106 and 112, respectively.

Collins-Maxwell-Baxter also competed in the meet, shooting a 542. Anna Peters led the Raiders with a 117.
